A Brief History

1642: The history of the blue stone began with Jean Batiste Travenier, a French merchant adventuring in India. It is not certain how the diamond came into Jean’s possession but It is strongly mentioned he stole a crudely cut 115.28 carat diamond from the eye of a jade idol in Golconda. Upon discovery of the theft the priests placed a curse on whosoever possessed the jewel. Read more about The Hope Diamond and the USPS

When I came to Minneapolis from NYC in 1975 I had the pleasure to be a tourist in the state of Minnesota. Each weekend I would travel alone or with friends to new communities and explore them with a camera. Soon my life became tangled in the weekend frivolities of the Twin Cities and my local tourist adventures took a back seat to seek broader adventures and visits requiring airplanes. Here it is 38 years later and once again I am excited to be a Minnesota tourist visiting post offices and their communities. Read more about Albert Lea
